Bonfield Road, Strathkinness

Aileen and David Downie wanted to move to St. Andrews for some time so when they found a plot in Strathkinness they were delighted. The village sits on high ground looking down over the beach and town of St. Andrews and yet it is only 8 minutes away. While the village is traditional and unspoilt there is a wide range of styles and ages of houses, which left them a lot of scope in the design process. The house they designed is contemporary in style so the Aluminium clad exterior windows and doors in Anthracite worked brilliantly, matching almost exactly the colour of the main cladding and being a perfect contrast to the Siberian Larch portion of the house. They chose white internally and full height sliding doors to help open up the spaces. They also love the reversible windows for ease of cleaning from the inside and the great ventilation, which they provide.
